The man behind Dedham Vale's application, astronomer Mike Barrett, highlights its unique location. He says, 'Dedham Vale is in a sweet spot. It's the darkest area outside London when you're coming north. It's snug right in between Colchester, Ipswich, Felixstowe, and Sudbury.'
Barrett also mentions the challenges of securing the 'dark sky' status, which required adopting a lighting management plan.
